Hôtel des Invalides
The Hôtel des Invalides [129 rue de Grenelle, +33 144423877 www.invalides.org ad/ch €9/Free] was built by Louis XIV in the 17th century to shelter thousands of injured and disabled war veterans (hence the name). Despite its grand façade, the Hôtel des Invalides never functioned as a palace. Today, this spectacular ancient building is home to an Army museum and two churches.
