NORMANDY MANCHE Coutances Cathedral Notre DameCoutances (pop.10,400) is a hilltop town which makes for a good daytrip or stopover. It houses the Norman-Gothic, Cathédrale de Coutances [1 Rue Puits Notre Dame, +33 233450041 ] which was built in the 13th century. The town also boasts the vast Jardin des Plantes [Rue Quesnel-Morinière, +33 233190810 , Free], which was created in 1855 featuring an eclectic mix of French, Italian and English styles. 

Layout
The town stretches out like a long ‘S’ and the main longitudinal road is rue de Geoffroy de Montbray (south of the cathedral). The bus and train stations are southeast of the cathedral.
