CHAMPAGNE ARDENNE vineyardThe department of Marne is named after the Marne River, which flows through it. Home to chalky plateaus to its east and dense woodlands to its west, Marne has a good collection of natural sights (in the form of regional parks and nature reserves) to excite nature-lovers. However, the department is better known for being home to the vineyards, which produce Champagne’s finest sparkling wines. In fact, Marne’s flag and logo have incorporated yellow bubbles in their designs to signify the importance of their wine industry. Having been carved out of the former Champagne province, Marne has also had a long history with the French army, as they have established a few training grounds here over the years.
