Dreux (pop.33,500) is a quiet town with a dynamic past, as here was the ignition point of the French Wars of Religion that began in 1562.
reux is also home to a handful of ancient buildings- the grand Chapelle Royale de Dreux [2 Square d’Aumale, +33 237460706, ad/ch €7.70/4.20] (a necropolis of the Orléans royal family, built in 1830), the town’s 13th century
Église St Pierre [40 Place Métézeau] and their iconic Dreux Belfry [Place Métézeau], built in Flamboyant Gothic style, between 1512 and 1537.
