FRANCE CENTRE EURE ET LOIR château de Beauregard Château de Beauregard [Cellettes, +33 254703674 www.beauregard-loire.com ad/ch €8/6.50] was initially built as a hunting lodge by François I, in the Loire region. The fine cream-coloured palace sits amidst a well-landscaped, colourful park, hidden behind the forest of Russy. Though uninhabited for many years, the palace remains a popular tourist sight as it is home to many unspoiled 15th and 16th century artefacts and an impressive portrait gallery. Decorated with blue and white Delft floor tiles, the gallery is lined with 327 historical portraits of notable names such as, Christopher Columbus, Anne de Bretagne, Cardinal Richelieu, Henry VIII together with Anne Boleyn and every French king since Philippe VI.
