FRANCE BURGUNDY SAONNE ET LOIRE Abbaye St PhilibertNortheast of Cluny, Tournus (pop 6,200) is best known for being home to the Abbatiale St-Philibert. This ancient church once belonged to a 10th to 12th century abbey that is noted for its unique Burgundian Romanesque architecture. While some features of the old building are no longer standing, certain ancient structures like the 12th century mosaic of the calendar and the zodiac have been well preserved.

Those headed for Tournus also make it a point to drop by the pretty medieval village of Brancion that is connected to the town via the scenic D56.
