FRANCE White Water RaftingThe Gorges de l’Allier area is located around the hilly region that lie alongside the River Allier, west of Le Puy-en-Velay. Interspersed with shrub-covered hills and rocky cliffs that offer breathtaking views, Gorges de l’Allier is also home to several protected insect and animal species.

Above the eastern back of the River Allier, you can find remote villages that make up the section known as Haut Allier. These villages are usually dotted with Romanesque churches- most notably the church in Prades, which is home to a 15th wood entombment of Christ, as well as a baroque altarpiece. You can reach Prades by rafting or canoeing down the wild River Allier (AN Rafting [http://an-rafting.com/] conducts canoe descants to the village).
