FRANCE ILE DE FRANCE HAUTS DE SEINE La defense
N
anterre is the extended business tip of La Defense. Home to numerous sky scarpers, a university and an urban population of over 90 000, Nanterre is good place to drop by for the night after ferreting out the historic monuments around Ile de France. However, the town is not all business as it has a religious streak, being the birthplace of the patron saint of Paris- Saint Genevieve. The town’s name (of Celtic origin) also has the word ‘sacred’ in it. Nonetheless, it is now more famous for being the place where major corporations carry out their high-profile lawsuits and for being the site of the Nanterre Massacre in 2002 (when an activist shot and killed 20 people before plunging to his own death during investigations).
